I have to constently scrub the alge off my saltwater aquarium. I realy want to get an alge product but I have live rock in the aquarium. That has the coraline alge on it that I do not want to get rid of. Would a UV steralizer work? Any solutions? The reason there is alge on my aquarium is beacause i have a powerful light on the tank. The water is ok in clarity and I kep up with my WCs I just have alge. By the way it is a 30 gallon aquarium with 2 common clowns and a six line wrass and they are all juveniles and they get along great and as you know live rock. Any solutions? Thanks...

I agree make sure you ARE using RODI water . i was having a similar problem and had a lot of algae grows on the glass of my tank and didn't want to damage my Coraline algae. What worked for me was buying a ball of Chaetomorpha (macro) algae. So far it has worked great with my tank . From my understanding this algae is easy to control and trim when it gets big . Also it eats all nutrients in the water that help and feed nuisance algae . all i did was tied it to a piece of live rock with mono fishing line. Good luck

I love your tank! I wish I had a setup like that.

No, just water from a well underground. I don't use and tap water conditinor beacause well water has no clorine.

Well water has alot of TDS and DOC which algae likes to feed off of.

I have one and use it but I hate having to scrub with it constantly.

I think you missunderstood me. Algae scrubbers are a sort of filtration system, essentially it grows algae in it, as a result, sooner or later algae will stop growing in the tank either completely or nearly completely. Have a look at this Forum. http://algaescrubber.net/forums/
IMO there is no filtration system better then a scrubber, skimmers remove some of the larger particles and what not, but scrubbers remove the stuff that is already broken down, in example, nitrates and phosphates, and since those things normally feed algae, you will see a decline in algae after it starts working (assuming its set up correctly). I like to think of it this way the oceans are kept clean by algae... so why shouldn't it work in a aquarium?
