i have a pretty bad algea issue in my 100 gallon tank, and the pleco got evicted cuz he started buggin my bichirs. so the problem/qestion is what kind of algea eater could i utilize to keep this brown algea in check.......its growing on the moonlight, glass and plants.

i was thinking mystery sails but didnt want a giant snail bloom like u get with pond snails......
do the "mystery snails" not reproduce as rampantly as other snails?

if they do, what other algea eating animal could i employ in ridding myself of this disgusting pestiliance....

I used to have a large black mystery snail in my bichir tank and it did not ate any of the brown algae at all.

you can try a flag-tail proc.
i heard they are great algea eaters.
but they can suck the bichirs slime coat also.
i have heard many peoples success stories keeping them together.
unfortunetely i am not one of them :( i gambled once and lost.
i may try again if another deal comes my way. i guess its hit and miss.

:iagree: A flagtail may work greatly.......I had one (in my avatar) until he passed away he lived with my ornate with no problems.........He also kept the tank extremely algae free.......

might try a flagtail then........

Hi! I know this is an old post but did you try one? and if so, did it do the trick?

I too am having algae woes.

this horrible green carpet comes off very easy and looks unsightly.

have a bristlenose pleco but it barely moves from its corner and have never had such bad green algae in all my life.

I have tons of abubis and sword plants that are being raped by this green menace.

I used PURA PhosLock in my ehiem, but it just slows the bright green filth from its constant spread.

I hate algae:irked:

yours sounds like possible cyno-bacteria, not algae. does it look like slime? does it come off in patches?

Grmanrocks: as for you i really not sure, maybe cut your lights back? find out what kind of level of phosphates are coming from tap? or might even be high nitrites/nitrates? sorry i cannot help you with something to eat it. only things i've kept that will eat it is siamensis, or bristlenose plecos, or even flying foxes, or shrimp, platies and such like algae, even flordia flagfish. but bichirs will make fine work of all but the pleco. i've never kept a flagtail, so that might be a good try.

well hope some of this might help. ;)
