Since i got my 3ft 4 bulb t5ho fixture on my 55g tank i have got alot of algea groth on the tank and my rocks i like it no problem with it i was wondering does anyone just let the algea grow on there back glass and never clean it off i was thinking about it if it wouldnt be to much of a mess

I only clean the front and sides of my tank, the back grows as it wants, my rocks are covered in healthy algae that my mbuna graze on. I also notice that the petricola seem to munch on the algae growing on the rocks and back glass.

If its brown algae its not so good. But I dislike algae personally. Except when like a carpet grows on fake plants it looks cool makes them look realler!

I need to spark up my fish life

In my african 125 gal tank I let it grow on the rocks and the walls of the overflows, but I don't have a background and the algae on the glass is rather unsightly.

In my discus tank, it's a 55gal acrylic with a black back, and I have never once scrubbed it

Algae on the backglass will help process some of the nutrients in the water which in turn theoretically reduces the growth of algae elsewhere in the tank. So the back glass beocmes the sacrificaial lamb!

I only clean the front glass and that is it. I don't use backgrounds and it helps the tank look more natural the thicker the growth. Being a plant it filters the water a little bit, indicate barriers to the fish, provides food for some fish! I don't mine it all. I clean mine with those rough green sponges I get for my filter at the dollar tree. They are five for a dollar and much, much, much cheaper than buying a single smaller one at the LFS! 100_1319.JPG
