Another change of plans happening here. Although this one is a very reluctant one. None of my fish stores can get my tropheus for any sane price, and after my discus experience, it will take some time before I can justify spending over 20 dollars on a juvenile fish again. So here's the new plan. An afra tank. And maybe some synos for some cleanup. I know these guys can be crazy aggressive, but here's my stock list:
Jalo Reef Afras: 2 Males 4 Females
Cobue Afras: 1 male 2 females
Lions cove Afras: 1 male 3 females
White Blaze Afras: 1 male 2 females
White Top Hara Afras: 1 male 3 females.

I have a penguin 350 and an emperor 400 on the tank, and will be doing once or maybe twice weekly water changes of 50 percent, so I'm pretty sure I'm good in that aspect of things.
The tank will be set up with a lot of rocks to break sight lines but be arranged for maximum swimming space for the fish.

My last question is feeding. I've heard some debate over whether they should be fed primarily a carnivorous diet or a herbivorous one. What I've gathered for sure is that on either side they recommend supplements of the opposite occasionally.

Thanks!

I've kept all or most of those.. I guess I never considered them too aggressive. They've been good Malawi community fish for me.

However, if you really want to keep Tropheus, don't give up.. Not sure where in Penn you are, but check out neighboring aquarium clubs and see if someone is breeeding.. I really don't know anything about Tropheus (never kept them), I just hate to see someone give up on getting a fish they really want.

Well both fish I've been wanting to keep, but really I just wanted to try Africans in general. And I hope they'll be peaceful for me, because I have heard some terrible stories about their behaviour.
