all bio fx5?

left picture is how i use to fill my fx5
bio media in the middle and poly fil on the sides
whenever i notice water flow weak i would just throw away the dirty poly fil and replace with new
heard alot of people have good results running all bio in canisters so i decided to try running pond matrix in the middle and had some pot scrubbies and bio balls laying around so i filled the sides with them
anybody run their fx5 like this? how do you like it? how often to you have to open up the canisters and clean them?

why not just use the foam that came with the filter? would work just as well as scrubbies.

Bio mefia is much more effective when you keep it clean. Wiith no mech before your bio your efforts are wasted.

I ran two xp3s with all bio. I popped a medium filter sponge block on the intake. The sponge needed cleaning two or three times a month and I cleaned the body of the canister every 3-6 months. Once I had a high bioload of messy fish I added a hob filter stuffed lightly with filter floss for extra mechanical.
