I think they are finally big enough to ask the question...what type of cichla are they? I was told ocellaris but who ever knows. Notice on some they have the "eye" spot on their tail, and some just have a spot that ends right at their tail fin. Someone once said, "looks like you might have a 4-bar". I tried researching 4-bar cichla and came up blank. Any help on identifing my fish would be greatly appreciated. And some info on 4-bars would be cool as well.

Not the expert Bro but i say Monoculas all the way ...

I believe I have 3 of the same fish I bought off aquabid from The Wet Spot in Portland Oregon. My so-called wild caught Ocells look like yours(check my other threads) and they have jacked up deformed tails, a faint 4th bar and a black spot at the end.

Did you try to return your PB's that had the deformed tails????

Do you get a collection point? Those fish bare a really close resemblance to Cichla pleiozona. Probably the closest I've seen yet in captivity. Do they still have any left?

Here is an adult photo of C. pleiozona for reference.

I actually pm'd you and we established they were the same batch. I live close to the wet spot and have developed a relationship with them. They said I could return if I wished. I started with 8, only 2 had bad tails. Ended up trading 2 to another lfs for my ebjds, and just yesterday gave away the last deformed bass to another mfk user. See free bass thread in northwest classfieds. Can you post a pic of yours. Would TWS not take your fish back?

Thanks for the pic! My bass do have a blue tinge to them under low light just like that pic. I have seen them recently at my lfs. However like jbru70 and I have expecienced some are coming out with deformed tails I believe to be genetic.
