So I installed them:

So I started the car, it took a few seconds for te fuel filter to fil up but other then that it started just fine. I let it run for like a minute then got in it and played with the rpm's. All whent well but when it drops from a high rpm, it makes a funny noise. So I took it out on the road, same problem...

It goes up to 400RPM and stops. But it doesnt stop perfect, it jumps from 3800-4200 rpm. The car becomes jerky like this. It happends in all gears except for neutral. It also does it when it wants to. The two most important times it needed to act up it didn't but other then that this now always happends.

Can any of the mechanics on this site help me?

Thanks

Hey there do you have any fish? And i have a 280z 77

Someone at my school has a 280Z, pretty sick. Some other guy has a 96 300ZX and their are a few Silvias/240 SX in their too.

Do I keep fish? is that a question?

beauties... :D

Z, now it's time for you to take it to your mechanic.. what you have sounds like one of several things.. i think the three most likely are the ignition coil, or the computer, or the coax cable from the computer to the distributor (this is a real common problem after a vehicle has been in an accident). only a trained technician with a good quality oscilliscope is going to be able to tell for sure though.

1. the ignition coil.. coils wear out, eventually over time they will start breaking down under a load and you will get intermittent spark but not enough to actually keep the car running well. this i believe is most likely considering what you've told us so far.

2. the computer or the coax cable that goes to the computer from the distributor. especially after an accident, this cable is often damaged either during the accident or the subsequent repairs and body guys don't replace them, they just twist the wires back together and this WILL cause computer failure.

there are also some less likely causes.. like a worn distributor shaft, or the ignition pickup in the distributor (another magnet that wears out over time). and, last but not least, engine vacuum.. all those pretty black hoses, they dry and crack extreme temperature changes under the hood, i'm a nut about maintenance, in my cars i buy a roll of vacuum hose and replace them every 100K miles, just so i won't have to go chasing a vacuum leak in a mess of brittle vacuum lines that break every time i touch them.
