My 55g will be empty soon and I was thinking of stocking it with some of my female marble convict fry. How many could I potentially keep in that size tank? It would be heavily decorated with lots of rock, fake plants, and hiding spots.

i'd say around 10 for life if you wanted just convicts and had good filtration but i would go with better cichlids

Thanks :-) Ten sounds awesome. I know cons seem so normal but I have marble ones and they're one of my favorite fish. Each one has such different markings!

ohh didn't really look at your sig you got some cool cichlids all ready but i think every cichlids coloctor could use a parachromis :D with good filtration and large water changes you could even do more female cons useually don't get over 5'' so 10 would be right at the normal limt so depending on the filtration and how much work you wan't to do would decide how many more you could get

I'm just wondering if aggression could be an issue. My one female con gets crazy every time she lays eggs, even if there's no male around. I'd absolutely love to have a tank full of females though.

I have two pair of cons. I keep the females in a seperate tank with other growout cichlids about their size. Thet generally pair up when one of them lays eggs, which makes it a rough few days for the rest of the tank.

Better Cichlids?:screwy: Cons are a fine example of Central american chichlids, inch for inch one of the toughest cichlids around

Two females pairing up and laying eggs is a pretty common thing and the aggression definately comes out in them. I would watch out for this but the good thing is it only lasts about 2 days then the eggs turn white and they eat them.

Okay thanks. I really want to keep a lot of the marble fry because they are starting to get their markings and they are a good-looking batch. I'll post pics as they mature!
