took me longer to pick out 13 straight 2x6's than it did to build the stand.
anyone see any design flaws ? Is there any reason for a support down the middle ? besides it will be reallly heavy:grinno:
1/2" glass 4'x7'x2' called around and got quotes on glass ranging from $902.00-$1228.00 . still waiting to hear back from a friend of a friend that is in the glass ind maybe he will be a little cheaper.
is there different grades of glass ,or is plate just plate
think i decided on dow 732 silicone for the build, looking for opinions and advice for the product

Subscribed, I'm not sure about needing center bracing or not. I'm sure others will Chime in soon though.

I don't see a need for a center support, however I would suggest using joist hangers where applicable.
Are you going to sheet the exterior of the stand ?
If not I would be worried about the lack of shear strength.
In the interest of overkill I would consider doubling the two top/end crossmembers as spanning 4' with a single 2x6 is pushing it.
Other than that I think it looks really good.
$.02 :)

Agreed. Looks great and I don't see a need for a center. As mentioned, adding a sheet of plywood makes it many times stronger (lateral movement).

there is hangers on them ,put them on after i took pic
i will double up ends with 2 more 2x6's with how i have 2x4 legs positioned
gonna sheet it after tank is built cause i wanna overlap the bottom inch of tank to support glass like a plastic frame on a standard tank.
not sure on how thick the plywood sheeting on outside should be , thinking 3/4" and then using a 8mm fake wood floor covering to finish it
