All-glass Standard Flourescent Bulb question

Hello everyone.

I am trying to determine which is the brighter bulb, kelvin rating aside, the Hagen Powerglo (which is a high intensity bulb and quite bright) or the regular All-glass stanard flourescent bulbs?

I like the look of both (have been using powerglo's for years) but I am trying to decide if I should replace the AGA bulbs with powerglo's - for max. brightness with black gravel.

its for a 29" tall tank, so I am trying to figure out which bulb is brighter for the 36" lengths.

powerglo's blow away standard aga bulbs. i have both and the aga bulbs on my 180 i cant even tell if there on during the day time.

T5 vs T8. The powerglo has a much brigher output IME.

actually, both these bulbs are T-8's.

the powerglo standards are apparently ONLY going to be available in the future in T-8 sizes (no more T-10's)

and of course the T-5 HO versions for the T-5 fixtures..

must be different here. I've never seen a T10 anything and I've only seen the T5 powerglo

hmm.. in my area you have been able to get T-8 and T10 powerglo standard flourescents for years.

Weird! Whats the diameter on the T10? is it interchangeable with a T8 or a T12?

usually, yes it is. but apparently the larger diameters do not work in some electronic start ballasts.

the diamater of a T10 is 1.25 inches.

T8-s are 1 inch and T-12's are 1.5 inches, although I don't think Hagen makes any T-12 bulbs anymore..

I bought 4 36" Hagen powerglo's today

these bulbs are so much more expensive than the AGA bulbs.

but they should be worth the price..

in the past, I have always used powerglo's but have on occasion tried LifeGlo's, lightning rods, GE AquaRays and Penn Plax grolux bulbs.

I always ended up thinking that the powerglos were nicer.

hence, why the first thing I wanted to do was replaced the cheap AGA's with powerglos....
