I'm in the market for a 300g aquarium (96x24x31) and just wanted others' opinions/experience/suggestions with different manufacturers.

The tank is going to be installed as the middle section of a dividing wall in my parents' new home and I want to worry as little as possible about it cracking/breaking and completely flooding their living room.

Thanks all.

I didn't think All-Glass made a 300G. I don't think you will have a problem going either way.

There is also Perfecto and they do make a 300G

if you click the link in my sig, you will see the 150 gallon I bought from Allglass (now called Aqueon). I was very very pleased. solidly built, excellent even thick silicone, thick glass, thick cross braces etc.

but the largest size they make is a 220g (that they call a 210 but its the same as everyone elses 220).

I am not a fan of the Perfecto big tanks, as they use thinner glass than Aqueon does on some tanks and thier cross braces are flimsy in comaparison on their standard tanks. I was surprised to see that my Allglass 150g has slightly thicker glass than the Perfecto 265g -they are side by side at my LFS.

the cross braces on their 'deep dimension' 300g tank on the other hand, are well built and beefy..that line of tanks are very nice.

but the standard perfecto's dont seem to be built to the same level..

Disclaimer: I'm an acrylic fan. So with that said, take the rest with a grain of salt. At the 300 gallon level your getting into the acrylic neighborhood. One of your concerns was the glass breaking. Acrylic is very strong! Most likely your not going to break it. Another point is it's clear-er than glass (if that's a word). When you start getting into the larger tanks the glass has to get thicker to support the water, then you start getting the green instead of the clear. Yes, acrylic scratches easy. Don't dork around when your near the tank. My wife bumped my tank with the vacuum cleaner, scratch. I was cleaning the tank with a magnet cleaning thing and I got a piece of sand under it and maybe went 6 feet before I noticed! Ahhhhh that sucked. If your capable of avoiding dumb mistakes like those your will love acrylic. Also after a mess up it's possible to buff out the scratches. Anyway good luck, a 300 is awesome no matter what it's made out of :)
