Don't get DLP or projection you will regret it.

Some Plasmas have 1080p, but it depends on your needs man.

If you have the space and just want a huge screen then DLP's will work, but if you have light coming in from windows in that room forget it.

Same goes with Plasma, you need a darker room to really get the full effect.

I say get an LCD. I bought an Olevia 32" which is just an LG LCD with a different name on it. WHen I bought my TV a year ago I think only Sony, LG, and Samsung were the ONLY producers of LCD screens (just the LCD screens, they would package and sell them to different copmanies and they would do the rest and put their name on it).

My dad has a 52" Sony XBR3 or 4, I can't remember, but honestly I can't really tell the difference. I play my 360 on both and the only advantage I found on his was that you have the option for noise reduction which takes away the scattering pixels in some games (Mass Effect). And also everything in HD is only in 1080i so it ends up upscaling everything anyway.

Now don't get me wrong, 1080p IS a better pictures, it is just that our eyes have a hard time telling the difference, especially when you make the jump from one sdtv to any hdtv, you will be amazed.

By the time everyone gets 1080p there will be another HD out anyway, they already have it on moniters, but the problem is the content. Nobody (no mass media like Fox, ESPN etc.) is even at the 1080p stage so this new resolution has even less media for it (pretty much none). But its just a matter of time.

I say just get a 720p (aka 1080i) LCD. You can hang it, they are the brightest, never wear out, no chance from screen burn, no glare, 180 degree viewing angle, they are the best , but they do come with that price tag. I was lucky and got mine for about $500 a year ago because it was a floor model. I think my dad's was about 3 thousand. So yeah they definitely range in price, but my suggestion from playing video games, watching movies, and watching TV on both, just get the 720p because thats all they broadcast anyway, and the jump from SD to 720p is obvious while the jump from 720p to 1080p is very very subtle.

thats a nice answer. i have thought about LCDs too. the room where the TV will go has light coming into it but can be controlled. i never really looked at getting a new tv until yesterday(older non HD 50" died) i really dont want to go smaller and have the room now to house the DLP(14" deep") the panny is around 19" i think which is a little too much.

we have alot of room in my house my wife just likes the whole hanging thing where everything is out of the way and she can have more room to put BS all over the place. i dont mind hanging either i would put all the AV equipment next to the couch and run the cables through the wall or under carpet.

the whole 1080i and p thing isnt a big concern for the same reasons you said(nothing really puts out P and if it does it can be upscaled sometimes) what ever tv i buy will be for long time i figured p would cover for the future

like i said ive weighed pros and cons on all three down to the tech specs and stuff. its just a toss up

i have a rear pprojection they are great if ur looking at it straight but the closer u get the more blurred it is and on some angles u cant see the television clearly mines a 48"thompson scenium get and lcd or plasma but plasma r really expensive to repair if they break.

another issue i have thought of. longevity. dlp sounds to be best due to cheaperto fix

hahaha:ROFL:

Yeah by all means if you have the space and no glare get a DLP, especially because its SOOO much cheaper than LCD, and they last a looooong time (probably as long as an LCD since hte DLP just has a bunch of tiny lcd screens on it I think).

The only reason I got an LCD is because in my room I have a window that has so much light coming in at every hour of the day that its impossible to have anything else and actually not have a glare. I actually bought different shades for the window to help solve this problem too.

But thats just a personal thing. If your circumstances are different then just do with what you can but if you ask me LCD is better than PLasma and DLP is better than REar projection LCD. Thats the research I found because I am so frugal, and broke, I didn't have a ton of money to just drop on any old TV. I looked around a lot and learned a lot.

But yes 1080p is almost pointless, yeah the resolution is better, but it reminds me of Sony's newest tv that shows colors that the eye can't see...Do I really need it? THats like selling food that has tastes you can't taste, and listening to music that is recorded in the sounds you can't hear.

Seriously 1080p is not 2 grand better than 720p. I am judging this off of a low end 720p model and arguably the highest end 1080p model tv, so its not biased in any way, I just think that the difference is negligable especially if your screen is around the 52" area. Granted if you had say one of those 100" 1080p lcds next to a 100" 720p lcd you could probably tell the difference, but who knows.

hahaha i am definatly on that 1080p is not worth a used car either boss.

imma go to stores around here today and mess up all the settings on their tvs and maybe my eyes will help me decided

Good move, that was the deciding factor for me as well. Good luck, you will be happy though with whatever HD tv you choose. HD is really really nice.

i just bought the hitachi and let me tell you this 50" plasma is outstanding. 360 looks great, upconverting DVD looks great, standard cable channels look alot better than befor. my neighbor works for my cable company so im getting HD cable tomorrow.

Yeah 360!!!!!:nilly:

Thats all I use mine for now. I think I bought it when gears of war first came out and I was just a recluse for days. Everything looks so crisp and clean.

Glad you are enjoying it.
