My gold sev swam up and gave me the wtf look, you didnt just add another fish did you. I picked up a convict from my lfs that some one had brought in he is a good 5 to 6 inches, he was hiding in the corner of the tank in the lfs, his color was all washed out and I knew no one else would take this poor bugger home.

Every fish in my 125g were getting along as well as cichlids do untill I dropped this guy in last night, he swam into the corner and hid there about 15 minutes and then came out, he swam up to all the other fish I have and then bam, my normaly placid geo goes all freaky and starts charging this new convict, then my gold sev who is buddies with the geo starts in on the geo and my fire mouth's gill's start flaring up at every one, then my 2.5 inch male convict starts sneak attacks at the new convict while its being chased by the geo, and after a few more minutes every one is at each other, I turned out the lights and that seamed to end it. I hope they can all get along I cant believe I cant get one more fish in here all I have is a 6" gold sev, a 6 " geo, a 1.5 " female con, a 2.5 " male con, and a very juvenile 2.5 " FH, 6 flying foxes and a plec for clean up.

Keeping a geo solo can make em pretty aggro w/o a pack. I had leucostica that beat down a GT, sadly he's now dead as well from bacterial infection :(. As for the convict he's just the new kid on the block give it time.

their giving him cichlid warm welcome!!!

Anytime you add another fish to an established hierachy you risk all hell breaking loose. Doesn't mean it won't settle down, but the risk is losing some or all fish.
Especially if you haven't held the new one in quarantine for a while.
The new one doesn't have to be sick, but could be a carrier of one protozoa, or that in your tank your fish have equilibrium with what's in their environment.
The addition of one new one could tip the balance, or create enough stress to cause an epidemic.

Thats what cichlids do........... that new convict was most likely not even acclimated to the tank at the LFS. Now you tossed it into a fully established community. The others sense the weakness. Or they feel that its a threat to their pecking order.

Now they will most likely fight it out till they all get a territory re-established.........

you are supposed to rearange tank decor when you introduce new species as it will make all the cichlids fight with eachother and not just gang up on the new guy.

Rearrange before adding new tankmates, that way there are no pre-existing territories.
