I am starting to look at what fish I want for my 240 now that my stand is getting close to being finished. I want an all male hap/peacock mix with some catfish and plecos. So how many fish can I put in there so I know how many I can pick out. The tank will have a 55gal made into a wetdry with at least 10-12 gallons of scrubbies and two xp3 canisters (for mech/chem only)

I am looking for a full grown number. On some, if possible, I would like to get a few males to start and weed out to the best looking one. Is that possible or will most of the males of the same fight too much.

I know some of the ones I like get a little big like the Dim. Comp. and Nimb. Venustus...those are like the 10-11" range...but most of the others seem to be 6-8"

Side note is that your mustang dynos?

There is no number when you get to that size... IE I think I have put over 50 some full grown haps/peacocks and water parameters would stay good for over a month with lower feeding levels. (Though I found that out because I had to leave for a month.) I had more bio filtration than you are having. Over 5 (maybe up to 10) containers of canister filter bio stuff (ehiem, seachem and hagens stuff) and then ~35+ gallons of bio balls.

And then the question is always how often do you want to do wanter changes. I was normally doing ~80 gallon changes ever once a week.

Overstocking of Peacocks and same species haps will result in high aggression or death esp. the eye-bitters. My eyebitters territory is about 40 gal and growing........the fish will dictate how many you can have they can only run so far in 7-8 ft of tank.

I have a lemon jake, red shoulder, bicolor 500, and a eurkea red ............the eueka red stresses the rest to no end and has killed a ruby red also had to remove a strawberry and 2 more lemon jakes that got really wooped on.

hap's - giraffe, eyebitter, ahli, fenestratus had 2 giraffes 1 dead @ 6-7" also had to remove a hyenna and 2 biglips that got smaked down.

In another tank I have an overly aggressive Empress that beats on a tawian reef and a fireline mloto...............like i said the fish dictate who and how many.

With that being said I'd still drop a malawi trout in if I came across one...............aggressions half the fun

Yeah I know its going to be trial and error...I had thought tho that over crowding was helpful in the aggression department....is that wrong?

Another thing...from reading some profiles on another site I had seen for example where the lemonjack and the eurika reds would probably fight being from the same species so I wasn't going to mix those.

The overcrowding is a good thing when you dont have more that one male of each fish, or of similar looking fish. No matter if you have overcrowded, sooner or later there will be a fight to show dominance over other fish of the same species or similar coloring.

I was going to try to stick to one male of each species unless I read that they were not that agressive to other males of the same. But I guess some will look the same...trial and error. I was just wondering about how many could/should I put in. I am sure i'll start off with somewhere in the 50 range and weed out as they fight and grow. Now I just need to make a list for yall to comment on :D

DID YOU SAY YOU WERE GONNA KEEP CATFISH IN THE SAME TANK AS AFRICANS I DONT THINK THATS A GOOD IDEA!!! BUT I COULD BE WRONG...

I THINK A HAP/PEACOCK WELL CROWDED TANK WOULD BE A GREAT CHOICE! THATS WHAT I HAVE IN ONE OF MY TANKS I ALSO HAVE A RED ZEBRA IN THERE BUT AM GONNA TAKE HIM OUT BC HES A BIT TOO AGRESSIVE. I ALSO HAVE 3 RUBY RED MALES SO I NEED TO MOVE OUT 2 OF THEM BUT THEY WILL DO FINE AS LONG AS YOU DONT HAVE MORE THAN ONE MALE OF EACH SPECIES LIKE THEY SAID ABOVE...

IS IT 240 GALLONS?? IF SO THATS A HUGE TANK I SAY U COULD HOUSE UP TO 50 OR EVEN MORE FULL GROWN I HAVE 30 FULL GROWN IN A 120 AND THEY ARE NOT OVERCROWDED AT ALL I ACTUALLY WANT TO ADD AN OTHER 5-10
