I think I know the answer.. but want to be sure..so I don't do it again..

have a 150 gal, salt.. has been happy for about 5 months, had many different fish and a eel... Anyways..

woke this am , everything dead.. and all the powerheads where off.. seems they got unplugged, somehow.. So there was no circulation at all... Also..yesterday, I did the 20% water change..I keep a barrell of the water going in the garage, and it's hot right now here... temp of the water going into the tank was over 90 degrees. I didn't think it was a issue, but it was 30 gallons of water changed.

So what killed them? Lack of circulation? or the hot water change? or both?

I'll rebuild, but don't want it to happen again...

Another quick question.. We have power outages all the time here. How long can the fish "be ok" with no "nothing"?

Thanks

90 degrees wouldn't kill anything if it's a 20% water change I think. Fish can be ok a couple of hours with nothing before they start needing some aeration to get oxygen back into the water.

Then it had to be the lack of circulation for 12 hours... I bet.. Fish where all heathy.. hadn't lost any in a long time...

I was bringing the salt level down a little... from1.025 ... added water was 1.022. But pretty sure that was ok..

depends on the fish, the amount and size of fish, the tank, the water quality/temp...

you can invest in a Uninterrupted Power Supply, to keep things running through the outages. for a while at least.

i'd venture to say the safe bet is one the "over 90 degree" water that you used, that's just a dangerously high temp, especially with an already low oxygen level.

had a total wipe of my first marine tank, turns out the puffer died and the eel tried eating its body and died, started a chain reaction of decay which one by one wiped out all the fish.
Have to be careful with Marine, i would say it was the lack of circulation and all the dirt stacking up, Marine fish are more sensitive to water quality.
