Hi everyone. Just when everything was going well, some of my fish are having different problems. My biggest flowerhorn that had ducklips before, all of a sudden, got it again. He's been in a hospital tank 5 days now and I've been treating him with Metro, Maracyn, salt and 75 degree water. He got it before and it looked a lot worse with a big blister on his lips that popped. Now he has it again but no blister just puffed up lips. I know flowerhorns that get it usually die within a day or two but it's been 5 days and he's still alive. His lips are still puffy and his colors are faded and washed out. Haven't feed him but I will try tonight. Now my other flowerhorn has a pimple on his back and 2 on his tail. 4 of the pictures are without a flash and the one with the flash you can barely see the bump on his back. He's still feisty and is eating well but he has also gotten a little darker. I also have 2 flowerhorns that I've been trying to mate. They've been divided for about 3 weeks and when I got them together they were swimming and dancing together. Then one day when I got home from work, they were fighting and the male got beat up, but just some loose skin on his kok. I divided them again and the female is healthy but the mail isn't eating and his kok has shrunk but the wounds have healed. When he got beat up, he looked like he was getting ick so I treated him but the spots disappeared the next day. He will take some raw prawn in his mouth but he just spits it out. He just looks at the food. The funny thing is that I've been testing all of my tanks water every other day. The parameters were the same in each tank. PH 7.8, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrates 40. I've been changing 50% of the water everyday and the nitrate level has gone down to 20. The only thing different that I have done before this mess was giving them some frozen blood worms about every 2-3 days with their usual pellets. I've never given any of my fish bloodworms before since I have been raising fish. Also, I have a crew remodeling part of my house and I know that they've been re-routing some of the water pipes. Are blood worms dirty like tubifex worms and do you think the water from the faucet may be contaminated? 3 different fish, 3 different problems all at once. Since the male that got beat up isn't eating, I've been treating him with General Cure, salt, and 84 degree water. Please give me some advice. Otherwise, all of my other fish are really healthy and no, the 3 sick fish were not in the same tank.

Anyone. I need some help here.

Are you using Maracyn or Maracyn 2?

Maracyn, not Maracyn 2. Last night I used an eye dropper and squirted some bloodworms into the one with ducklips and the other one that got beat up. They didn't spit it out but they still aren't eating by themselves. What meds do you think I need for each fish. And thank you.

Maracyn is erythromycin a broad spectrum gram positive anti biotic and NOT the correct med to be using. You will need at least Maracyn 2 but at a Ph of 7.8 it will loose most of it's effectiveness. Get some Kanamycin or at leats API Triple Sulfa, if you can get both use them to gether. If you can't get both use one of them. The erythromycin will not get this if you are correct about what you are fighting here. Keep and eye on your perameters erythromycin will kill you BB too.

Okay, I'm going to the store right now. So will these medications be okay for all of my sick fishes? What about using the medication you recommended with the metro for my one with the ducklips? Hopefully you can get back to me soon so I will know exactly what I'm getting. Also, does Kanamycin have a brand name or is it just called Kanamycin? I'm surprised that the one with the ducklips is still alive.

Thanks,
Ed.

Metro can be used with Kanamycin (Seachem Kanaplex) and API 3x sulfa.

I just picked up some more metro and some Triple Sulfer. Is this for the ducklips or can I use it for all 3 fish?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using MonsterAquariaNetwork App

Use it for the duck lips. If you suspect the other two may have somthing that would be suseptable to the sulfa use it on all three. I was advising you on the dick lips however the 3X sulfa is a good med for a verity of bacterium the metro is better if some form of protozoan is the cause. Together they can be a good combination as an anti protozan with excelent coverage for secondary bacterial infections.

I'm going to treat all 3 with metro and the triple sulfa. Thanks for your helping a new flowerhorn owner. Why do you think that my fish with the ducklips is still alive? Also, should I still force feed the fish with the ducklips and the one that got beat up and not eating?
