i have a 75 gallon tank that is very overcrowded i know but this is temperately.. until i move to my new house i have a 300 gallon sitting in my garage but until then my fish will have to stay crowded.

the weird thing that i have noticed is that all of my fish are always on the top like if there isn't enough oxygen for them and they are gasping for air?

i have a fluval fx5 filtration so even tho the fish are very overcrowded the water is still crytal clear.

Lack of oxygen or elevated ammonia and nitrite are often main factors brought about by overcrowded conditions. Does your filter actually give off a powerful output flow thus ensuring the surface movements are vigorous? Check your water parameters and post the exact results here. Please post the brand of test kit used.

i have a ammonia alert its 0.02. i do weakly water changes n the nitrites are 0 n the nitrates are 20

im using the 6 test in one strip quick dip from petsmart

If your tank is indeed overcrowded, then you have no choice but to do more water changes than that. Either do daily water changes or 50% water change 3-4 times a week. Your ammonia is quite high assuming the result is accurate. I'd still get API liquid. It's a better investment than test strips.

add in an air pump

i thought 0.02 ppm was good??? anyways i will keep do double water changes until then and i have been considering in getting on e of those long strip air bubbles and a air pump to increase circulation & oxygen

Oops...I've been reading it as 0.2 which makes me really need reading glasses.:duh: I am still not sure about the reliability of your ammonia test. With an overcrowded environment and weekly, it doesn't seem to make sense that your ammonia is near zero.
