So I have a pair of grammodes from Dan at COA that I've had for 8 months now without any luck of breeding. They are indeed a pair as they never fight. The my big problem now is their shyness is starting to get to me for some reason. It hit me when someone came over and said why do you have empty fish full of water. To me this was the same as getting kicked in the nuts. They see alot of traffic but still show no awareness of me even during feeding. The they only feed at night and after I turn the lights out and get away from the tank. I love these fish but they are very stressful on my mind. I have Freddies growing out for a pair right now but have thought about even getting some istlanum or red isletas this summer to get a pair. What have been your experience with them and them being shy or outgoing. Should I give it time or is it time to move on to something else. I hate getting rid of fish and the grammodes is still a favorite of mine. I have posted about my troubles with them before but the comment made by a guest got to me a lil.

Dude, nothing personal but this is the second thread I've seen you make complaining about your grammodes... If you aren't happy with them, re-home them and move on. It's pretty simple in my mind.
If you want an interactive fish, why don't you get a species that's very well known for being outgoing?

Didn't you get rid of your Festae becasue they wasn't very interactive too ? I'm not knocking you at all, but maybe instead of looking at fish that are a little bit "special" looking or "rare", you should just get something that is known to be interactive and start enjoying fish again

As nice as it is to know you have that something special in your tank, it's alot nicer to have something that you can see, and actually enjoy having.

Festea was sold because of aggression and a breeder wanted her. I have other tanks that have fish that never get touched. Its just this one tank I can't get right

U can bash me because frankly I deserve it. I don't like what's going on with me either. I just don't know why I've done this crap over the past year.

I'm not being critical, i have changed my mind and had more than my fair share of different species.

It is hard when things don't work out, you can find yourself getting frustratred and losing interest quite quickly. My point was, that maybe you just need to pick a fish based on personality (It sounds like that's what you want) Rather than a fish based on it's popularity/rarity/...etc..

I've got a Breidohri now that i like so much i am thinking of giving him my 180 on his own just to keep him happy

Good luck with whatever you choose to do !

I have a grammode and istlanum divided right now. I can tell you that it is night and day when it comes to these two different personalities. My grammode is the exact same as yours. The only time it ever became outgoing is when I took the divider out and he was to busy fighting with the istlanum to worry about me. The istlanum on the other hand, has been growing like a weed. Eats like a pig. Not to mention I just discovered if I stand a few feet away and throw punches at him it really pisses him off. I think he thinks that is my way of "flaring up" at him. If I stand right next to the tank he isn't aggressive. It is pretty funny to see. One last thing, I will say what is making it hard to decide between the two is the fact that even though the grammode has all of those personality flaws, there is still something about the way they look that keeps me coming back to them.

That's my biggest problem when it come to grammodes too because I know what they become when 8+ inches
