The only thing that I am known to be allergic to is penicillin, the augmentin in it. But recently while I was using a treatment of Melafix on my 55 gallon tank, my hands and arms would become itchy and I would get a small rash with little breakouts of what looked like pimples on the areas. This would last for about 10-20 mins, and I would just try to rinse off my arms under the sink. Well a few days ago during treatment, I finished up and closed the lid to go into the kitchen to was my hands. While washing them all of a sudden my eye starts to itch. Half way through washing my hands, like 10 secs, my eye is burning. I finish and run into the bathroom and look in the mirror and my eye was blood red. The whole eye was just red, not bloodshot, but pure red. So I ripped out my contact and began to flush my eye with water. Just kept it under the sink with a light stream. About 5 mins later I look at my eye and it was still red, and every time I blinked it felt like I was blinking with glass in it. So I kept my under the faucet for another 20 minutes, about till the red was finally gone. This happened in the afternoon, like at 2, and for the rest of the day it still hurt when I blinked. Just the person I am, I didnt wear contacts for several days after, but from then on I was sure to avoid any eye contact and to wash my hands directly after touching melafix. So watch out to those with allergies and if you are to handle fish meds. It is not a devastating story, but for about 20 mins my eye felt like it was going to explode.
