Alligator gar, about eating their mate

Hi,
Where I live I've seen so many people have trouble with Alligator gar eat tankmate, or even the mate cant fit in mouth they still attack. The result was like died by Injuried.

Redtail(1.3 metre) died by 2 Alligator gars(1 metre), also Tiger Shovelnose recently. <<<< the topic lately display on some Thai Forum he should post some pics, he's not.

My close friend also has been happen like this so many time, his pond has got so much predators but no doubt Alligators are on top in there. Even mine, My gator ate Spotted which same size too. at that time they just like 10" and 12", and he spit after 24 hrs I thought they would died together at that time. Until now my gator(24") still live alone.

of course they not agressive fish built, it just feeding behavior.


ok my question is I never seen alligator gars tend to do something like that to their own species. Why? or they did but not success?

my gator gonna move to bigger pond, and I still cant decide to send him a friend(not feeder) or not.

Most predators will eat anything that fits in their mouth when they are hungry. In fact, I will eat anything that fits in my mouth when I am hungry.

so they(include you) sometime try to eat their own kind too? in case hungry. I thought they would have some exceptable like not to do with same species lol.

but well, even social kind like koi also eat smaller or weak one heh.

I've never had a problem with my alligator attacking the tank mate.
I got tiger fish (microlepis) in the same tank. Both around 15 cm in size.

Many fish eat their own kind, especially fry.
