alligator gar eating pellets

just wantin to know if this is common i have my baby gar in a tank with some of my small cichlids and noticed the other night he was eating pellets with my cichlids instead of his normal fresh shrimp and mullet chunks he ate those also but how often do gar eat pellets just wonderin. all my other gar wouldnt eat pellets at all

thanks i was just wandering its the first i have had do that are their any certain pellets i should get him i have just been giving him massivore pellets

yeah very smart fish they watch others and become interested and will try anything mines eat everything
