I've got a 20"+/- Alligator Gar that shares the tank with a 13-14" Bumblebee Grouper. They are both really tame and actually act like a dog to some extent. At feeding time tonight, just like usual they try to get the food before the other does. The grouper is the more efficient predator in the tank because it doesn't have to grab the food from the side, like the gar has to. Well, tonight the grouper got about 4 pieces of shrimp stuffed with Hikari Massivore Pellets out of the 6 i had made. I was attempting to get the gar the last two pieces. The gar was at the top left of the aquarium ,when the grouper being jealous came up and nipped at the gar without even touching it. The gar shot out of the tank like a dolphin so fast I didn't even know it until it hit the hardwood floor. The top of the aquarium is 6' off of the ground. So it fell about 7' before it hit with a wet smack/thud sound. I tried to pick it up, but they are terribly slimy. I was hurrying and got it about 5' off the ground towards the tank and it wiggled really hard again in a snake-like motion and there it went again to the floor for the 2nd time. I kinda broke its fall in my attempt to catch it, so it didn't hit the ground as hard that time. Long story short, I got it back into the tank. He looked kinda bewildered and rattled(I would be too). Swam kinda funny after that for a minute. Went and told my wife what happened and walked back into the dining room where the aquarium is. So.... After 3-4 minutes back into the aquarium after the incident, it ate the 2 pieces of shrimp I had saved for it. Pretty tough fish(lucky too). Thanks for letting me ramble.
