OK, now I know this is gonna sound a little far fetched but this is 100% true and just happened. I live in So. California where we just had a pretty damn good sized earthquake. Now if we can get over the Gar legality thing here for a minute I really need to share this.
He somehow knew the earthquake was coming about 25 seconds before it happened, im serious!!! I was sitting here on the computer when he made a large splash for no reason (something he never does). I turned around and he started acting really crazy, he was swimming head on at me but shaking his head back and forth (like the dolphins at the end of Jaws 3 if you know what I mean). It was enough where I actually stood up and when over and was like "what's the matter man, what's going on?"
I had just been doing laundry so I wanted to rise my hands before I touched him so I went in the bathroom, rinsed my hands and when I came back to the tank he was practiaclly sticking his head (snout) out of the water and shaking it back and forth.
I was seriously freaking out cause he's NEVER done this plus I had just read about some guy on here whose Gator Gar had just died for no reason. Then I open the lid and that's when I noticed that the wall the lid lays on was shaking back and forth hard. The Gar splashed again and I heard my girlfriend yell out "OMG Earthquake". I could barely stand as the whole place was shaking and things were falling. I ran in our bedroom and told my girl to get into a safe spot, I looked over and the tank in the bedroom was splashing over and water was spilling out. I had to kind of hug it so it didn't slide off the stand and break. The damn quake went for about 20 seconds or so, pretty long. When it settled I went upstairs to see that our saltwater tank looked like a wave pool and water was dripping into the electrical outlet and was starting to smoke so we had to kill the circuit breaker to prevent a fire.
Everything is under control now and things are OK, but I am not exagerating at all when I say that the Gator Gar sensed the earthquake coming almost 30 seconds before it actually hit!

totally believe it. animals are in tune with nature and sadly most of us are not...

New earthquake early warning device! Film at 11:00!! :D

Bro,I fully agree with you as animals have the extinct above humans and we should not take for granted as they sense danger way ahead of us.
Coz my dog save me from a nasty blow years back.
Take care and thanks for the sharing of your Gar.

Not to take away from your experience, but the tremors were probably affecting his water before you could even feel them at all.

Very cool hope everythings is ok and back to normal as is possible and thanks for sharing, very interesting.

Steve

I believe it too - fish are sensitive to lots of things, their lateral line can pick up on changes in pressure an magnetism, wish I had a few extra senses like that!
