In search of Leiarius
iam having trouble on how to better my yard for the native alligator lizards, they hibernate in the shed in old mole tunnels, and they seem to eat ants, only thing i now of i have plenty of that fits in there mouth, one is almost three feet long with tail and i keep seeing babies, less than six inches long.

i just really want to better there living conditions in my backyard, this summer i stuck an old grey pine branch and i always see them bask on it.

P.S. even the women of the household love these lizards.

wow almost 3 feet long pics that thing is a beast then

Could put some sheets of plywood or some half-buried pvc pipe out there for them to hide under/in. And yes, I'd love to see pics of the big guy. I've always thought alligator lizards looked really cool, but I never tried keeping one as I've heard they're pretty nippy and not very good captives.

no pics due to them all hiding from the cold and i have never tought about taking pictures of them, ill definately try out the buried pvc, they are still wild and i avoid catching them due to the fact i learned the hard way, they will die from the stress.

the three foter is mostly tail, about 18 inches is body.

what insects should i breed to release into the yard, for them, i want them to thrive.

As a kid I used to catch alligator lizards all the time. The place I would go was by this water run off by the freeway near my house. As for living conditions.. I think they realy liked haveing a water sorce near by. Somthing to think about.

ill do that , for water i got sprinklers and stock tank pond.
