ok i live in colorado and cant find if its allowed to keep an alligator snapper does any one know if its allowed or not.

if so i plan on making an indoor pound but was seeing what LxWxH would be recomended for one of these bad boys

Build something big. Very big. I would think something like 10x5x3 would end up being ok for a full grown turtle, although it may need to be bigger. Just be prepared for what your getting into. These turtles are no joke.

They are awesome animals, not sure of your laws though. Good Luck.

Pretty sure there legal in colorado.

And they grow about an inch a year so I wouldn't build a massive pond if your buying a hatchling or small AST.

He didn't really say how big he wanted to get one. Of course a hatching wouldn't need a massive tank, but they will grow faster than an inch per year with the right conditions.

Call you local Department of Wildlife office to find out if they are legal where you live. They should be able to tell you.

these guys live a long long time. some say 150 years. haha but most agree with 80. they get big too. the Shed aquarium in chicago has a 250 pounder. ive personally caught a 120 pound one. the shell lenght was over 2 feet and its head OMG its head was as big around a soft ball. Be VERY careful with these guys. they really dont move around alot. the newport aqauarium has a 130 pounder that lives in (i think) a 600 gallon tank. about 8'x5' and 3 1/2' deep

Edit: For some reason thought you were talking about common snappers. Alligators aren't native, so it's highly unlikely that they're restricted. Will do a bit more research for you.

They are legal here, I bought two during the summer and was told that no permits are needed by the DNR here.
