ok start off from the start ok i bought a datnoid (3 in) that is very stable. he was living with a JAG and a RED DEVIL and the dat was fine. then 4 days later i got 2 datnoids from the same guy, and my 1st dat was making trouble to them. so i took out my 1st dat for 3 days and put him in he was scared of the dat (hiding behind the power head) that was slightly bigger than him. so i took out the bigger one and then my 1st one was swiming around again! what should i do!

If you keep movin the tigers around to different tanks, It really unsettled
Them and it encourages them to hide and also they cam take days or weeks before they feed again. Tigers will hide, and go unstable they more you mess with tank and tank mates.
A group of tigers will always fight a bit and jostle
For the hierarchy of position.
This is how you should let them establish there own order of alpha fish and less dominant ones.
You will Beaty always have a 'runt ' of the pack, a whipping boy fish that usually eta bullied more than the others.

Maybe there are a certain nmumber of them, say 5, or 6+, or whatever, that might get along better with each other than just three? Or is three a normal amount to be kept together in a tank ?

I have 6 altogether, 3 in each tank. 3 seems to be a good number.
Last time I introduced a single dat to a tank with 1 dat and immediately they fought like mad, i then got a dat from my other tank and put him in and the fighting has stopped since.

Not saying it will definately work, but it worked fine for me :)

Goodluck
