i was watching my rhom this morning and noticed she was acting very strange. when i walked over to check things out, i noticed that the temp was extremely high...96 degrees! it seems that the heater malfunctioned causing the water temp to skyrocket overnight. i have currently unplugged the heater and am going to let the water cool down to the desired temp naturally, as to not shock her from a sudden change. she seems to be holding stable, but the temp is still in the low 90's. i hope she stays tough until the temp is back down to normal. :(

here are a few pics i snapped...the thermometer pic was after it had cooled for a while.

What kind of heater was it that you were using?

It was a Hagen (aquaclear)

Should be fine unless you see her start breathing heavily. If she starts gasping then you might want to do a quick water change or add an extra air stone.

That happen to me with my 6.5" rhom, but mine died. It's worth it to spend a little bit of money on a good heater, don't want to take that chance again. Print up the price of one of those stealth heaters on petsmarts website and take it to the store and your can get a $35 heater for $20.

i run stealths on my other tanks, but havent replaced this one yet...well now i am.

the water temp has cooled down to 84 now and she still seems fine, so i think we are safe...
