I was considering a 150 tall tank that my local Petsmart had on sale. (My wife is wanting to buy me one for Xmas.)
I stopped in to look at it one last time before I told her ok, and come to find out, the Store Mgr informed me that ALL of the tanks over 75 gallon that Petsmart now carries have the Tempered glass on ALL sides and therefore cannot be drilled!!!!
Yup. THAT would've been a disaster!!! I'm actually considering now, since I can't seem to find any good deals on a 'Pre-Drilled' tank for FW setup anywhere around ATL, going with a 130 Long tank from them and just do a Canister filter and deal with the fact of never being able to drill it:mad::wall:... Damnit... Oh well. At least I found out BEFORE I got it home!

definitely better before than after... im way to paranoid to have a drilled tank haha

I have that same tank. Not sure if it's just an "urban legend" or not, but I have heard many times that the Petsmart 150 gallon tanks need to be sealed before adding water. There's a lot of posts and topics about them on the internet...and the manager at our local store even mentioned it. I haven't had one issue with mine, but I got it used.

They are really nice tanks for the money though...

i wouldnt even give that craphole corporation your money...save a bunch and get one used here or on craigslist

Believe me I've been looking!!! Unfortunately here in ATL area there aren't many, if any, deals on tanks on CL! And I hear ya on the deals on here are awesome! Only problem is most seem to be in Cali!!!! I'd rather not buy one from there, but I've been looking and searching Craigslist for about 4 months, and the ones at Petsmart are even cheaper than going through my LFS!!!

What do you mean "Sealed"? Do you mean another bead of silicone? How hard was yours?

I would be weary of that. Cheaper definitely doesn't mean better. A lot of times the old saying holds true...You get what you pay for.
Good things come to those who wait, eventually you will find your dream tank.
Either way, good luck.

Abraham Lincoln said "Good things come to those who wait but only what's left by those who hustle our steal."
I'm just saying that with enough effort you can have anything you set your mind to(except drill a tempered tank:ROFL:).

Mine was used, so I am not sure if it was sealed or not. Its not hard to do though, there are some topics here on how to do it in the DIY section.

You sound very excited and very enthused, and I love that! But, I am going to be totally honest with you. The tank is a good deal at $500. But it only includes tank, stand, covers and lights. You are going to spend $200 to $300 at least on filters. Substrate will be close to $100. One heater (two is preferred) will be $40 or more. That's just the basics and we're pushing $1,000.

I got mine off CL for $500 and included everything but fish. One of our local fish stores has a new 125 gallon complete set up (less substrate) for $700 (on sale for about $600).

I do feel for you. I jumped on Atlanta CL and you're right, there's nothing! Yes, several 75s and smaller, but nothing really too exciting in the big tanks. I am shocked...here in Omaha, you could buy a 100 g plus tank every other day :)

I would suggest beating up your local fish store for a bargain deal. Maybe they will give in and work with you. If not, maybe place a few WTB ads in CL, etc. Of course, check here, but I know what you mean about not travelling too far. There are some amazing deals here, but all seem way too far away.

Keep looking. As Milpool said, you will find your dream tank. If nothing else, the Petsmart 150 is a good tank...but you can get a helluva lot more bang for your buck (if you get lucky!)

Either way, good luck to you!
