my lfs has a ropefish that is roughly 7-8in. long for $12 and i was wondering if it would do well in my 40 gallon with one 5.5 (thats about right) in. senagal and a african brown about the same size as the bichir. i also have a little senagal bichir growing out. so whats your opinion everyone?

Should be fine. As long as your rope is fed, the work involved with eating a small sen, won't be worth the effort.

sweet thanks cause ive only got about half an hour to get it.

what are you worried about? none of those fish are agressive, and as far as eating each other, the 7-8inch rope probably has a smaller head than the senegalus, and so neither of them could eat each other if thier life depended on it.

:( i forgot that it is Sunday, they close early today, ill have to get it tomorrow:( thanks for all the responses.

your one senegal is only 5.5"? i got mine a good while later at 3" and its already touching the 7" mark.... ohwell i suppose they do have different growth rates.

ropefish aren't my favorite of the bichirs, but they can be pretty cool. just make sure you have your tank covered as best as possible. these guys will try to get out no matter what (almost like they hate being in water) so you gotta cover every hole, even if you think its impossible for the fish to get out of!
