I'm getting a new camera this weekend, so bear with me. I just wanted to post a few pics of my Pike. It is 4" and eagerly feeding on Hikari Gold, Ghost Shrimp, and Blood Worms. It is still a little weary of me. Every time I approach the tank it follows my movements from a distance. I can't get too close with the camera. I bought it from a LFS in a tank with a Belly Crawler. I have been told that it may be a Lucius. But this is based on the quality of photos that I can currently display. I will get better ones this weekend.

This is when I first brought it home.

Wow Nice one Al! He looks awesome! May I ask where you purchased this little guy from? I was just wondering becuase I've been looking to buy some more cichilds.
BTW Congrats! Also I was wondering if you have gotten your big tank yet?

P. Power, thanks again for the I.D. and advice. I'm very happy with this Pike. It is a very busy and greedy fish. It's colors come in more every day. Will I be able to sex it soon? It would be nice to have a pair to experience their courtship and breeding behavior. Knowing what it is will make things a lot easier when trying to find a mate. I just don't know if lightning will strike twice at my local Pet Supermarket.

Carlos, nice to hear from you. It's crazy but I found this Pike at Pet Supermarket! It was in a tank with a much larger Belly Crawler. The manager said that they had another but it bailed during the night and died on the floor. I wonder what kind it was. I will have my new tank in a few weeks. I have some work to do in my house before I can focus on dismantling one tank and setting up another. I will definitely post pics when it's up.

The Lucius has really changed his behavior since I got him. He used to hide all of the time. Now he swims very actively and comes close to me when I approach the tank. He has grown rapidly in width and length. His taste for pellets has increased too. He has a cool way of finding lost pellets by following his tankmates after feeding. When they dig through the substrate for food, the Lucius stays close behind and snatches up what they find. If it's more than one pellet everyone wins. If it's only one the Lucius is the only winner. He likes hunting Ghost Shrimp too. It's fun just to watch him stalk them and suck them in. He is extremely fast. He definitely is one of the fastest fish that I have ever owned. This was an awesome score for me from a very surprising store. I would like to find a female but the store has yet to get any more Lucius in. I may have to order one from another source. I just don't see this species near me on a regular basis. I hope I can find a female to document even more of their behavior. I'll post a new video and/or pics in a few more weeks.
