i remember a thread about the midsection and tail of an ornate floating because of trapped air, and i read ann saying to try to message it out. well to my suprise less than a week later i faced the same problem, so i caught the fish and tried gently pushing on its stomach towards its rear end, and it wouldnt work, but i could definately feel the air inside the fish. well i gradually (and CAREFULLY) added force and tried doing it harder and harder, and eventually i got the air out, except the air game out of its gill rather than its butthole. the fish is fine now, though it lost quite a bit of slime coat from my hands rubbing it. im treating him in a 20 gallon with some medication to restore the slime coat, its doing fine!

i thought i would let you all know so that in case it happened to you there will be somthing in the back of your head to think about. thankfully i read the thread from a week ago!

what in the hell?

is the fish new?, size? if so that behavior is normal!

had the fish for about 2 weeks, its a little over 5 inches, this behavior is definately not normal, ive been keeping bichirs for quite a while, in no way was a bouyant bichir normal (especially when the head sinks and the tail floats)

wow! thats intresting, it actually stay still and let u massage? wonder if u could do that with big bichirs or would they take your hand off

actually i netted him, and then brought the net to the surface so that i could put my hand in the net and do it that way

good to hear its doing ok :) a question, how did you feel that theres air inside? whats that feel like? i had a floating mokelembembe before, but i couldn't tell if theres air inside...

glad he came out of it ok. it was my 14" ornate anne was advising about but sadly mine didn't make it.

I think it's necessary to add a post to this... saying that if you're new to bichirs and not used to what they can and can't take... it might not be a good idea to squeeze the stuffing out of them. Sort of a, don't try this at home thing... Be careful lol

good input KOTR, i could feel the air inside its stomach when i felt it, it felt like a skin balloon when i moved my finger one way, the air moved the other
