I have had a Ctenopoma for about a year now and I have recently moved to the middle of no where surrounded by desert. The town I live in is very small and has no pet supplies. The Ctenopoma has settled in very nicely with his Angelfish buddies but I have a problem.

What can I get locally from the enviornment or order online to provide them with a better diet then just frozens/flakes? 150 miles for the nearest ghost shrimp/ guppies is a pain(not to mention the gas money)

I have a feeder guppy tank established ( cheapo 5 gallon ) and the guppies have bred in it bf.

I have an unused 30 gal that could be used to breed ghosties or some other form of Ctenopoma cuisine.

Any tips on getting ghost shrimp to breed.

Any ideas on other kinds of live food for them. (not many bugs here)

Thanks for the help.

Mine eats all sorts of stuff frozen fish fillets and frozen foods are just fine for them they don't need live food

Ghost shrimp can be hard to breed but i would set up a small tank around 10 gallons put a songe filter in there give it a few weeks to grow some algea add some ghost shrimp and wait for them to breed it helps alot to isolate and females with eggs i would take a plastic cup poke a bunch of small holes in it and put it in either another tank or bucket of some kind or in part of the tank thats divided with a fine mesh that way when the eggs hatch they will fall threw the holes in the cup and then you can place the females back with the rest of the shrimp

For food you can feed the shrimps cruched fish flakes and they will eat some of the algea in your tank as we'll as a few tiny critters that live in all of our tanks

a good pellet food and frozen food is more than enough for a staple diet, you don't need feeders at all

the problem with that is that store bought feeders are the easiest way to bring parasites and other diseases into your tank

In that case, awesome to hear. My apologies for assuming...I was confused since you mentioned breeding, but also the driving distance to the nearest place.
