i have heard that java fern does not do as well when the roots are under the substrate.....is this true? if not then ill just go with java fern.

i like the way java fern looks but if it cant be under the substrate i dont think its for my tank i would like a plant that is easy to care for and does good in low to mid light and stays around 8 inches not more then 12. and i would like it to be easy to care for because im new to planted tanks

also would a power head help the java fern if it was under the substrate??

thanks for the help

The roots can be under the substrate, the rhizome needs to stay out of the substrate or it will rot.
