who knows
hey any of you ever heard of this ( this is not my work i am coppying and pasteing it).
•Simply ring your tank in black plastic, or heavy blanket, absolutely no light must enter the tank for 24-48 hours ( I recommend 36-48 ) that the Ich simply dies off. Like I stated, I have yet tried this method, but on my next outbreak I will certainly give it a shot. •After 48 hours remove the covering, resume feeding as normal, wait 5 days then repeat the above step again. By the end of this second treatment you are all done.
•NOTE: During the 24-48 hours that the tank is covered, ensure that the tank lights are off and absolutely NO peeking, or feeding of the tank, absolutely no light must enter the tank! If any, even the smallest amount of light does make it in to the tank, remove the cover, wait a couple of days and start all over again. Also if you inject CO2 into your tank for the live plants, turn it off during this period of darkness. If you do keep live plants, slight browning of leave edges may occur, simply prune this away. seems logical. it supposed to be better than the tradition treatment on knives, loaches, ect.

Logical? Sounds absurd to be honest. The light matter was discussed in AC last week and the only benefit you get from turning lights off is the fish does not at least get stressed easily which the ich could take advantage thus taking a toll on its host in the process.

sorry i just got bored and came acrost it

The light premise is after they hatch and look for a host the fish are supposedly harder to find...but that is after treatment.

Quarantine new fish for 14-24 days is a better device.

Another way of treating ich without medication is with a high power UV lamp and pump set up temporarily on the system. You need at least 15 watts per 250gal flowrate and a tank turnover of about 3 times an hour. This way the free swimming stage gets roasted before most of the individuals can find a host. A few years ago in Germany a medication resistant ich variety came into the hobby (maybe in the US as well?) and i had to beef up the UV on all of the systems in a pet store chain i was working for cause nothing else was working.

Salt works awesome on Loaches. I lost a lot of Loaches until I tried salt (2 TBS/5 gal). I honestly didn't think it would work and was near tears just sure I'd lose my new Loaches to ich. They did great and never looked back.
I don't think I'd have the heart to black out the tank....I have to LOOK at them and see that they're ok several times a day.
