Stuck inside my own head
I've been working out on and off since high school sports, which, considering I entered by DB 30's lately, have been a long time and I reached the point where I can say that I am completely sick of the traditional gym and it's setups. Because of this I started doing Russian Kettlebell workouts a couple months ago, and I can say that I am completely impressed with them. I have never been pushed so hard, or regularly had so intense 45min workouts. At this point I highly recommend giving them a shot, although I will be trying crossfit in a little over a month to be able to offer a comparison. All I know is that this new type of program is giving me better gains in a shorter period, and that the WoDs keep you from getting bored(although you will learn to hate heavy ropes.) Does anyone else do something like this to get a different style of workout that you would like to share? My goals are to be able to start competing in Tough Mudder and Warrior Dashes this summer.

Sounds kind of like crossfit ;)

I miss gym workouts but I know enough lifts to never get bored. Right know I have a squat rack with a high &low pulley so I'm limited to the basics but challenge myself by continually increasing weights, luckily I occasionally go through 2 month periods where my work schedule either keeps me from lifting or lifting light. Currently my goal is to increase my bench by 30# and loosing 10# of winter weight so that I can bench twice my weight. Do you need lots of weight to do kettle ball work outs, wouldn't mind adding it to my routine but don't want to have to buy $300 of weights.

If you want to do a full bell workout then $300 probably wouldn't get you enough different sizes, but if you just want to add a few different moves to spice up an existing workout then you should only need to buy a few. If there is a kettlebell gym near you see if they offer a free or discounted training class. That way you would be able to receive proper training on technique and be able to figure out how many and what size bells you need. A quick search shows that they run about $1.50/lb.
