Or neither?

I bought three "Surinamensis" about six months ago. As there are very few, if any, Surinamensis for sale, what are they?

Sorry if the photos are a bit dark, I just got my new tank set up and the hood isn't finished, so no lights.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the replies.

What are the distinguishing features?

Hey Dan! Where you pick these up? To answer your question:

Caudal fin (tail) is the first place I look. General spotted pattern quickly says Altifrons varient, broken and stripped pattern says Abalios. Even at a fairly young age this should develop like yours. That and a large mid lateral spot and lack of facial/muzzle markings.

When you going to head up north to my place?? I have a large school of G. Abalios for your to check out. :naughty:

from what i've heard, adult abalios tend to have larger black spots...

I'm not sure on the id of your geos, but they're nice nonetheless!

Thanks! They are some of my favorite fish.

Thanks for the information, I have seen photos of both (alleged) Abalios and Altifrons that looked a lot like mine.

I bought them at the World of Wet Pets six or eight months ago, I am pretty sure I paid $9.95 each - I wish I would have bought five...

I would like to see those big Abalios some time. How is the 300 coming along?

The place over in Beaverton. I get over there every now and again. I belive the owner used to work with the wet spot folks. Kee and Andy make it up pretty often. Maybe you can hitch a ride with them one day up to my new place in Vancouver. 300 is on hold for a couple months.. I'm recooping from some medical issues a while back.

they also have these guys at PetSmart too. Usually abalios, but labeled as Suri.

Am i correct in saying that a Suri is identified by only blue spots in the caudal fin?

Honestly I'm not sure. If you look at Jeff Rapps "Photolog of eartheaters" over in his vendor section, I believe he has a pic of actual suri's. Hang on I'll edit this when I find the link.
