Hey Dan! Where you pick these up? To answer your question:
Caudal fin (tail) is the first place I look. General spotted pattern quickly says Altifrons varient, broken and stripped pattern says Abalios. Even at a fairly young age this should develop like yours. That and a large mid lateral spot and lack of facial/muzzle markings.
