I have done many measures to keep deathrate low but things arent working out well for me. now im even more worried cause i wont be with my fishes for the next 9 days.

what i really curious to know is, why is my altum angel losing their ability to swim?

i started with 15. now i have 11 left. the next one to leave me has perfectly fine finnage. no cottony growth. externally looks normal. but i do notice the eyes are slightly protuding. most characteristically, they are unable to swim. able to move their fins but just unable to move well. so they end up getting blown about by the slightly current.

may i know anyone who can give a possible diagnosis of what is happening?

current tank is medicated with:

1. Furan 2.
2. Metronidazole
3. salt
4. pH 6.2
5. temperature now set at 25 deg celsius. (from 26 previously)

i have no idea why are they just dying.and one at a time.

thanks in advance!

Are the gills uncharacteristically red? Slightly protruding eyes is also one of the symptoms I observe during columnaris. However, it is usually accompanied with melting fins. Most of my altum columnaris casualties don't develop the cottony growth, as I usually treat with Furan-2 quickly. However, they do exhibit: slime patches, protruding eyes, swollen lips and melting fins. The serious cases show unusually red gills as well.

PH is a little high for altums. What's the GH? Wouldn't have tried salt with angels. Maybe RO water.

what are the water parameters? I'd probably try near 100% water changes daily if not twice daily. If you really think it is an internal bacterial infection treat with kanamycin preferrably in a qt tank.

Check your water toxin levels. Nitrite and Nitrate level make sure there down, your pH level at 6.2 is good check TDS should be around 20 ppms. avoid useing salt this can harm them. Sounds like the tank did what is called an acidic crash make sure your TDS is not lower that 20 ppms. Without seeing it it is rather hard to tell.

Altums are a tough nut to crack as they come from water so acidic that there is no bacteria present so they have no immunity built up. They need to be started in RO water and then slowly over months can be acclimated to soft tap water.
