Picked up 15 healthy dollar sz. Orinoco Altums, they have been in QT for 8 days now in a 90g, lost 2, the rest are doing well, eating everything, no signs of illness, (knock on wood).

They will eventually join 3 other Altums in a 144g. These came from the same wholesaler 1 month ago.

I would like to add 4- 6 green phantom plecos. They are currently in a home aquarium, but the seller can not hold for more than two weeks.

Question, #1, is how long should I wait to add the new plecos to the 90g Altum tank ?

Question, #2, How long should I wait to add the new Altums to the older, just slightly larger Altums in the 144g. ?

I don't want to gamble with the Altums, all opinions appreciated.

I saw your other post, great choice L200's are pretty nice plecos.

First answer; it usually takes up to 2 weeks for the beneficial bacteria in an aquarium to fully adjust to new stock that you add to it. if you choose to add fish before that time period you run the risk of a cycle crash.

Second answer; it all depends on how well the fish appear to be doing, the safest thing to do would be to wait at least 1 month to see if the fish are really thriving, and free of any contaminants that could possibly affect your main display.

Hope that helps.

I had 17 sm peruvian angels in the 90g before introducing the Altums, so hopefully the cycling will be stable. I've decided to leave well enough alone for at least a month or two.

Now I just have to find out if mixing 2.50"-4" L200 with 7"+ L240 (gallaxias) is risky or not.

Thanks for the quick reply JC_P, very helpfull.
