So I was trolling my local pool supply store and wondering why I could get a complete pump and canister for an above ground pool for less than half the price of my pan world pump but I'm sure it has to do with reliability and noise. I was the distracted but some filter medium I found. In addition to the fifty pound bag of diatomaceous earth that they sell, my local pool supply place has something they call diatomaceous floss. I have a vortec diatom filter that I love. I only run it for an hour or so every other week but it does an amazing job polishing my water and I can be confident in knowing that it is filtering all kinds of nasty stuff that I can't even see. The guy at the shop couldn't tell me much about the material. It didn't feel like a spun floss but felt more like a lightweight powder. Is anyone familiar with this material? Can it be used in a canister or does it need to be drawn over another filter the way a vortec works?
