Hello this is my first post on this forum but I have been looking through the forum for quite awhile and have also been an avid fish keeper for years.
My dream fish has always been an arowana. I have kept various cichlids, oscars, piranhas and other fish but have always been in awe of how amazing the arowana is.
I recently found a beautiful Jardini that is about 6" at a lfs. I currently have a 75 gallon that i would be more than willing to just house the jardini himself being how much i have wanted an aro.
I do know these fish get large nearly hitting up to 48" as far as a Jar goes and within the next year to year and a half plan on having around a 200-250 gallon tank set up.
I am basically curious how long this 75 tank would be okay holding him and how fast they grow in general.
Thank you very much for feedback it is greatly appreciated :D

Welcome to mfk. You should snap the jardini up there an awesome fish. Aggro for an arowana though. A jardini wont hit 48" more like 24" in home aquaria they are the most aggresive arowana out of all so be carefull. Read up some of the stickies on arowana keeping very good info:D

awesome thank you very much. I definitly meant 24" >< but yeah I really think I'm going to pick him up. How fast will he grow and has anyone had any good experiences with tankmates?

Tom welcome to MFK. I too have been concidering an Arowana. There are many helpful people and posts to help you here. From what I've been told so far is that a 75 gal would only last so long. might want to concider the larger tank from the get go. Good Luck

That's keeping it pretty tight but if you KNOW you're getting a 180gal or above by next year go for it....You can try bottom dwelling fish but any other water level fish is going to get killed once that Jar hits around 8"-10"

might get killed.

I have an 8" jardini in a 75g with several different tankmates. I also have a beast of a jar(22"+ with tankmates:naughty:). Not all jars are psycho but some can be..lol...

A baby jar can be housed in a 75g for about a year but the bigger the tank the better.

Get the aro you'll love him,
Chris

P.S. check out the arowana sticky's on this site
