I am almost entirely sure I am asking for too much of the 'perfect' herp to suit my needs... But hey, I'm gunna ask anyways.

So is there a herp out there with these qualities:

Semi-Aquatic, actually spends good amount of time in water. And could live in an enclosure with a decently sized water portion.

Limited size, but still big. Something smaller than a caiman, but bigger than a newt.

Predator, will eat live fish, crickets, mice, etc.

Available in pet trade, and doesn't break the bank with price of specimen or care. (like a caiman lizard)

Sorry to be a nuisance to anyone, Thanks to anyone that can help.

Diamondback Terrapin but it needs brackish.

I made a pretty cool tank for my chinese water dragon where I had a 55 gallon tank with lots of vines and live plants then I stuck a 10 gallon tank in there and filled it with water and fish. It worked out great until my roommate's cat got into it and killed it. They are awesome pets.

water snake, red eyed croc skink, pyxie frogs. budgett frogs, elephant trunk snakes all come to mind for me.

I think you are wanting a chinese water dragon. They need much larger than a 55g when grown. There are also a few dwarf type species of monitor lizards that appreciate water but aren't as easily bought as a water dragon.

I'm with Chris on this one.

I'm a monitor fan, but there really aren't a lot of monitors that are both small and semi-aquatic, not to mention not expensive... Plus, a monitor isn't something to get unless you're sure that's exactly what you're looking for.
