Two days ago i was at my lfs to buy some kuhlies and cories for my 46 gallon bow. Lately i have had a little algae on the back of the tank that i do not really care about but my dad does. So while we were there i picked up 2 golden algae eaters about 2 inches. I did no research just sorta got them in the moment, sorta stupid since i ALWAYS research. Any way there in my tank and suckin' on algae. I just looked them up and see they get a FOOT in length while the dumb lfs employee said 3-4 inches! I do not want a foot long fish in there and dont think it would be fair to them. Do they always get big? Should i return them?

i have only seen them get around 4-5 inches but i did see one a long time ago that was around 10"

2 algae eaters in a 46 gallon will be impossible to live on algae that grows in the tank alone. There is no way the tank will produce enough algae to sustain them. You will have to supplement with lettuce/zucchini and algae wafers so they do not starve. if its gold nugget pleco's your talking about, in my experience they grow slow, starve very quickly, and the largest i've ever seen is about 6 inches, but i wouldnt doubt they can get to 10+ inches

I cant upgrade i have no room. I will probably put them in my friends 200 gallon pond when they get too big.

You will be fine as long as they aren't overly agressive. I had one attacking my 7" green terror so much I couldn't believe it.
