Firstly thank you sir/ma'am for reading my LONG post.

Ok i think ive lost it...

I just got my 4ft tank delivered.... NO cracks on glass, silicone wore out (but will reseal silicone tomorrow, seller had water in tank running when i went to see it), but I think resealing is not a BIG deal since a lot of ppl do that with 2nd hand tanks.

Now,
THINGS I DISCOVERED:

Guys please say something thats gonna help me.

1. Are ALL aquarium tank STANDS hollow? like wtf? im new to fish keeping but it the stand has a frame with foam in the center, but its hollow...so the FRAME of the table takes the weight of a 200 litre aquarium?

2. While cleaning the table, i realized under ONE of the wooden LEGS of the table there is water damage, and a small hollow hole..like something has eaten through it....

3. Now all these worries on how the aquarium might explode in my face ruin my aprtment are in my head...

So ive decided to talk to my land lord and see how much just CARPET insurance might cost, since I own everything else in the apartment?

Im thinking of contacting a furniture repair guy to fix the table and make it solid...

Anything i should be worried about or any words of comfort?

Glass aquarium's stands are hollow. The bottom pane of the glass take all the pressure.

You will need to check whether the stand is level or not. As far as the water damage leg is concerned, I would not worry about water stains or a small hole, as long as the wood is not rotten.

To be honest, I would not speak to your apartment complex about this unless you are sure there are no provisions in the lease about aquariums. when my cat unplugged my power filter on my 135 in Texas, I just paid for the carpet cleaning service.

Yeah, landlords usually aren't too happy about thousand pound (well, 8 pounds per gallon) glass boxes of water in their units... I wouldn't say anything. You can get renters insurance from insurance companies.

Stands are usually hollow. The edges of the tank support all the weight of the tank, and likewise, the edges of the stand support the weight of the tank.

If you feel uncomfortable with this stand, your mind will be much more at ease of you build your own stand. There are some great threads in the DIY section about building stands. It is honestly, relatively cheap. You just need a ledge for the stand to stand on, legs, and a base that connects the legs. The legs can be reinforced with a second piece of lumber.

My glass aquarium stands are not hollow. They have a top on top of which I place a piece of styro.

It doesn't sound like you got a good stand there. I would not trust it myself. You have the right idea, tho, get someone to add some extra support to it so you don't have to worry about it busting or sagging and causing problems.

Every apartment, townhouse, or rent home I have ever lived in had restrictions on aquariums..........

Good think I own now....

^^ You guys are fully right, most likely the land lord wont allow aquariums....but would carpet cleaning from water take alot of money? i live in a small unit since im a student and all.

Next question is, yes I have contacted some furniture repair guys, i told them about the stand, the wood did rot... (due to water damage)

I got a hell lot of work to do today, re-sealing the tank (no leaks but im not trusting or risking it), im putting the stand in for an inspection...

ill keep you guys updated! Thanks!
