The more I get into this hobby the more unsavory people I meet. Don't get me wrong, I've met my fair share of awesome people like you guys here, but it seems like all the people I talk to or meet off this forum are nuts! Is it just me? Do I have a wacko magnet glued to my forehead or something? Please tell me I'm not the only one! Anyone care to share their stories about the crazies they have met in this hobby?

DISCLAIMER: This post has absolutely nothing to do with any MFK members(that I know of lol)so please don't turn this into one of those threads that bashes any member here.

I think that its anytime you deal with animal people of any kind you have a certain percentage of wackos. Some really creepy ones.

your going to have to be a little more clear, crazy setups, knowledge, temper?

Well specifically a person I was trying to buy fish from but any stories will make me feel better at the moment lol. The person wanted me to pay $23 in shipping supplies. I'm not stupid and know that 1 kordon breather bag is at most $1 and a 72 hr heatpack isn't more than $2! Boxes and Styrofoam are cheap too....Good thing I googled the person's email because apparently they have a pretty bad reputation. I love google :)

Pretty sure my husband has called me nuts more 'n once because of this hobby... but I'm pretty sure I know what you mean. We had a "crazy fish lady" instead of cat lady at one store I worked at. and yeah the more "in-depth" you get in this hobby the more scammers you find... more $$ more people trying to scam.

Same here, my husband thinks I'm a fish hoarder....he has nooooooooooooo idea lol. I'm beginning to think I'm a little too nice.

I used to work in a LFS.. A customer tried to tell me that I was wrong.. He was arguing that I didn't know the difference between a Jack Dempsey and a Green Texas. After about 5 minutes trying to be nice and telling him that the fish he wanted was a Jack Dempsey and not a Green Texas.. he called the manager to complain about me lying to him. I was like dude, the JD's are 3.99 and the Green Texas were 7.99.. In the end he still said he wanted a Green Texas and paid 7.99 for a Jack Dempsey.. @_@ Mind boggling.

After a few years in this hobby and working in an aquarium i have met my fair share of crazies. But i've found that the wacko fish keepers are also the uneducated fish keepers, they think they know anything and everything about fish but yet they "dont believe" in the nitrogen cycle.
They will also blurt out every little detail about their tanks and fish wether you want to hear it or not, where as Ive found all the actual dedicated fish hobbyists I've met seem to be a bit more reserved.

Actually, it's been the opposite for us. My husband has been a part of this forum since '05, and I've been a lurker since around then. I had an account, but lost the info and had to start a new one. All the people we've met have been fantastic, especially recently. We had the opportunity to meet some amazing MFK people by a total twist of fate, and they've become great friends of ours. LFS people are almost always obnoxious, but the people we meet that are just other fish keepers have proven to be the best people ever.
