Hey all I have a question. I have 2 senegals (the petsmart kind) and have had them for about 3 week's. They are approx 4 to 5 inches long. Well I looked in the tank today and noticed these little thing's swimming around in there. Im thinking the best way to discribe them is to say they are very very thin and very wiggly like a very skinny little worm. Anyone know what the heck this is? I would find it hard to believe that these thing's had babies. Please help because I dont want my fish to get parasites if that is what this is. thank you all.

they can't be baby senegals because your little guys are not even sexually mature. your's are still juveniles. the sens that petsmart sells are babies. i have one that's about 7-8 inches long and i don't think he's sexually mature, yet.

most likely planaria or some kind of detritus worm. cut back on feedings and gravel vac like its going out of style

mine has the girth of a hotdog. he's still a baby.

They're not babies. Um, they're parasites. Can't quite recall what they are but use some Copper Safe. That should help.

They are most likely planaria or nematodes. They're not harmful, but they do indicate overfeeding or under vacuuming. So, vacuum more often and feed less. I would not medicate unless, after further observation, you notice them on the fish, or something. No reason to stress fish and medicate for something that's harmless.

Careful, they might not be parasites per se and meds wouldnt do anything. Are they about hairs width? Stick to the glass?

i had something simillar years ago, i cut down on feedings and did lots of cleanings but it took awhile to go away. my fish ate them to no noticeable ill effect. i think they may have been pooped out by newly bought fish.

I have the same going on in my bichir growout tank, I have never had these in any of my other tanks. Mine appear to be planaria or nematodes and don't seem to have any effect on the bichirs.
