Hi all,

i'm after a few opinions as to the current situation with my main tank- I am concerned that my primary tank is over stocked. I am about to upgrade to a standard 180g due to my immanent move (STRESSS!!!) Even with this upgrade, i am still slightly concerned it is overstocked.

Stock;

6x Geophagus (brasiliensis x2(breeding pair), 3x Dicrozoster, 1x Altifron)
3x Chalceus
1x Hoplerythinus U.
1x Hujeta
1x Hydrolycus Tat.
1x Rhaphidon Vulpinus
1x Poly. Ornatepinnis
1x lismodoras Oncinus
1x L21
1x L200

Now, my primary thought regarding posting this on the Characin forum is because my Characins are of primary concern. That seems fairly heartless, but my Tat, rhaph, and Gold wolf are top priority. however, my Chalceus were a spur of the moment purchase that i am slightly remorseful of and tbh they stress the other occupants out by being incredibly skittish. The Geophagus are fantastic fun and pretty so my current feelings are that i need to sell the Chalceus but the Hujeta and the Gold Wolf shoal with the Chalceus and thus are very happy.

I also know that the Rhaph, at the very least, will require an upgrade later on. However, it is still small and the 180g should last a couple of years. Upgrades are not an issue but the 180 must last 6 months minimum.

So on to the questions;

Q.1 am i over stocked?

Q2. if the answer to 1 is yes, what would you keep?

Opinions and ideas are appreciated.

how big is the primary tank you speak of? sorry if i missed it

it will be a 180g, moving up from a 150. If i had time it might have been bigger but i have litterally run out of time. If i could find a 210, 224 or even a 280 thats what i would have and those are upgrade options, but for now the 180 will have to do.

looks fine to me. But I like full tanks.

and as you said, that raph will need alot more later on. And as the ornate gets bigger it will slowly help you thin the stock out.

the ornate is 14" now and co-habits his 'hole' with the Lismodoras. When he goes for a wonder he is easily the biggest fish in the tank and my L21 is atleast 10years old now..!

sounds like you have a good one.

My friend has a 12-13"er that mangled his Tat and 2 scombs with in the first week of him getting them.

His must just be a nasty one.

Mine usually ends up eating anything that I think is borderline in the tank. Even ones that I totally think are big enough.

But to the OP your tank sounds good to me. Just give them their much appreciated territories and you should be good.
