I know not all zoos and aquariums only keep saltwater fish, but it bothers me that so many people believe that only cool and attractive fish come from the ocean. For example, I am in the hiring process of getting a job at a theme park that houses fish, they're setting up a freshwater attraction, so when I asked what they will be housing in my excitement to hear of such a thing I was told it was for otters and marmosets (monkeys). So I asked will there be any fish, and the reply I got was freshwater fish aren't cute like saltwater fish. I think everyone would appreciate large fish like those seen in river monsters, as well as appreciate the beauty of SA, CA, and even African cichlids. Not to mention some beautiful sunfish and perch native to our own country. Sorry, I just had to vent.

By the way, feel free to list some zoos and aquariums with nice freshwater set ups. I know Niagara aquarium in Niagara Falls, NY has a set up with large mouth bass, some large catfish, and one amazing red arowana. Also, they house a good number of African cichlids, it's a smaller aquarium but the price is nice.

stineheart aquarium in sf has a crapton of freshwater fish. from breeding texes cixhlids to 10ft vator gars and rtc. alot of really sweet fish. and some fw rays at that

The Milwaukee Zoo has a giant tank for fish of the Wisconsin lakes and rivers, it has a 10,000 gal (I believe) Amazon river tank, and a display of the 3 rift lakes of Africa with an addition of the freshwater fish of Madagascar section.
We also have a place called discovery world with a Great Lakes tank, and a sturgeon and stingray petting tank.

Sea world San Diego has a decent fw collection. A huge piranha tank. A 1000g with spotted gars and two large motoro rays and even a well aquascaped tank with anableps. All of which are illegal for us normal hobbyists to keep. Except for the anableps I'm not sure of the legality of those but if they're legal then I want some :) haha

Awesome guys, I like the insight, I'd definitely like to see some of these places mentioned.

The San Diego Wild Animal Park used to have some tanks with African Cichlids about 10 years ago...they dont have anything like that anymore.
