I took my brother's water lily from his backyard "pond" and stuck it in my 100 gallon...
when I got it, it had 3 pads and a dying unbloomed flower pod... whatever it's called. ..anyway
it went from yellowish to really bright green and I have over 10 pads and a crapload of smaller thinner leaves coming off the back of the stump. I'm highly considering removing it from the pot and planting it directly in the tank.. ..but this will require a complete substrate overhaul..
I'm not extremely experienced in aquariums, but I'm of the opinion that *any* drastic change in the tank needs to be done over a relatively long period of time.. ..like accelerated evolution of a micro-ecosystem... I think I need to create the area it's going to live in first.. and let it cycle itself.. *THEN* remove the lily from the pot and directly plant it. My only real concern is soil floating around and mudding up the tank. ...that and I'm not convinced on the age of the plant so I imagine the root system is fairly large and probably as tall as the pot it lives in..
any opinions on my subspace theorum and gravitational hypotenus is welcome here.
and yes.. I'm quite inebriated at the moment.
..hence the lack of pictures which I imagine I'll be taking once my digital camera's batteries are done charging.
