I'm starting a biotope and wondered if I'm overstocked or if I can add a few more small fish. The tank is a 40 breeder. My current stock is
1 L191 pleco
1 albino Cory cat
1 4" spotted Rafael cat
2 2.5" angels
1 3.5" black ghost knifefish

I would like to add 5 tetras and may 3-4 cories. I will be rehomeing any fish that outgrow this tank when they get to that point. Most of the smaller fish will be staying in this tank with the Rafael.

Not even close to over crowded. The only 2 fish that swim around are the 2 angels. All the other fish either sitting on bottom or something or hiding. You can add lot more fish
Totally agree with this gentleman you have plenty of space left in that tank keep up on your water changes and you will be golden

If I was you id watch that black ghost knife with tetras they have a huge mouth even when young..... once it hits 5" its gona be able to eat pretty much any tetra..... but If you do get tetras id go with bleeding hearts since they have more coin shape bodys and if treated tight they get nice colors.
About the corys once that raphael catfish gets big they tend to get pushy my old 8" striped use to beat up on my polypterus but they got tough enough scales and most corys don't...... that being said if you can get the corys enough food I think it will work out fine and you might even see they swimming around him like a bunch of little kids.......

I was going to get medium sized tetras to avoid any predation. I recently lost two cories to my power head but the rafeal is new and just settling in.
