looking to do a amazon biotope. wondering if ne one has experience with buiding one. pictures, info etc... starting out with a 55 gallon till i get time and money to finish building my 400ish gal

Your likely to get poor advice for a stock list of 55 gallons up to 400 hopes. Can you be more specific? (stock for a 55 vs stock for a 400 or both?) The Amazon is pretty big and so are some of the fish. Looking forward to your response and happy to help. :D

Also, how specific are you wanting to get this biotope? Just fish from the Amazon Basin or a very specific biotope with fish from a single river/river system? If you want a very specific biotope, it would be best to start with one species, find out where exactly it is from, and then find other species from that area.

as of now its pirahna. speices i dunno yet - still researching. if i end up going against the pirahna idea - then who knows. will be a predator regardless. so lets put it this way a 55 gallon, predatory amazon biotope. 55 gallons for now - will end up with a 200-300 gallon within the next year. so - if the fish is small now but will grow to 20" or a little less, and its got teeth, it'll be considered. im also thinking a black water setup? dunno on that yet tho - actually buyin 2 55 gallons, so could do one of each. one black, one clear

u could say that but the ones i want r high, and, dont tend to play well with others

cmon now!! no one has setup a biotope before?!?!?!?!?!?!!

If your really into pirahna, it sounds like it's an easy choice. A species only tank and just do some homework on them. Maybe ask the guys over in that section how long they think a group could last in a 55g? I have no experience with them, sorry. Black water is a whole other beast. It's not easy and you really need to know what species you are going for and build the tank/husbandry around that species.

Example: Satanoperca Daemon are a beautiful black water species. In order for them to be at full potential and spawn for you, you need to get the PH around 3.5-5.5 mark (and keep in mind PH is just n indicator of overall hardness). That's not easy to do in most municipalities tap water. Not trying to discourage you, but it's not as easy as it sounds in most places. Make sure your 100% commited for the effort. ;)
